Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham reached 2,000 career WNBA points on Tuesday in a 96-77 victory over the Minnesota Lynx at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. She scored 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting with three three-pointers, adding two rebounds and two assists in 29 minutes.
After the game, the Fever shared video of Cunningham throwing a basketball deep into the second deck of the arena. Responding on X, the 31-year-old wrote, "Call me Patrick Mahomes from here on out."
The comparison fits her roots. A Columbia, Missouri native and longtime Kansas City Chiefs fan, Cunningham starred at Rock Bridge High School before playing at Missouri, where she set the program's career scoring record with 2,187 points. Her father Jim played football and her mother Paula ran track for the school.
Head coach Stephanie White praised Cunningham's response after she played only seven minutes in Sunday's loss to Washington. The win moved Indiana to 28-15 and kept home-court hopes alive.
The Fever close the regular season Thursday in Minnesota, with tip-off set for 9 p.m. ET.
