Giants QB Jaxson Dart could miss rest of 2026 season with knee injury

MRI results show Jaxson Dart's left knee injury is worse than first thought, putting the rest of his season in doubt.

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart may miss the remainder of the 2026 NFL season after an MRI on his left knee showed more damage than initially believed, according to reports from Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that surgery could be an option for the quarterback.

Dart was hurt on New York's opening drive Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams. While throwing a pass to tight end Theo Johnson, he was hit by defenders Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart, and his left knee bent awkwardly. He walked off the field on his own and watched the second half of the 28-6 loss in street clothes.

The injury was first thought to be a sprained MCL. Giants head coach John Harbaugh declined to confirm the season-ending reports, saying evaluations are ongoing and that the outcome would be known at the proper time.

Dart opened the season with a strong performance in a 28-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys, completing 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns while adding 54 yards on the ground. Jameis Winston is in line to take over as the starter, with Jake Haener on the practice squad and Brandon Allen a possible addition after his release during roster cuts.
