Rizzotti to remain president as Connecticut Sun become Houston Comets

Jennifer Rizzotti, a former Comets player, will keep leading the franchise's basketball operations after the move to Houston.

Jennifer Rizzotti will continue as president of basketball operations as the Connecticut Sun relocate to Houston and take on the Comets name, she told NBC Connecticut. The 52-year-old has led the Sun as president since 2021.

Rizzotti has a history with both franchises. She played for the original Houston Comets during the final two years of their run of four consecutive championships, in 1999 and 2000. That franchise existed from 1996 to 2008.

Her basketball career has deep Connecticut roots. Rizzotti is a New Fairfield High graduate who won an NCAA title at UConn and later coached the University of Hartford for 17 seasons.

Sun general manager Morgan Tuck, who told CTInsider she is also staying with the franchise, will join Rizzotti in Houston. Tilman Fertitta purchased the Sun earlier this year.

The Sun are scheduled to play their final game in Connecticut on Thursday before the relocation. The team currently holds the second-worst record in the WNBA, which could translate to a high pick in next year's draft, a class that could include USC's JuJu Watkins, Texas forward Madison Booker, and Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo.
