New York got encouraging word on David Bailey's elbow, but defensive tackle David Onyemata underwent surgery and is out indefinitely.
The New York Jets received a favorable update Wednesday on defensive end David Bailey, who was hurt in the team's overtime loss to the Green Bay Packers. Brian Costello of the New York Post reported that Bailey is dealing with an elbow injury but that head coach Aaron Glenn said he is fine.
The news was not as good for defensive tackle David Onyemata. Rich Cimini of ESPN reported that Onyemata had core-muscle surgery, with Glenn indicating a return by the end of the year. A specific recovery timeline was not given.
With Onyemata sidelined, more responsibility falls to Bailey and the rest of a remodeled defensive line, which traded away Quinnen Williams last season. The Jets opened the season with a lopsided road win over the Tennessee Titans before the narrow home defeat to Green Bay.
New York visits the Detroit Lions on Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
