Four-Star Guard Josh Tyson to Announce College Choice Between UC and Xavier

The La Lumiere point guard and former Lakota West standout will reveal his decision Friday afternoon at his old high school.

Josh Tyson, a 6-foot-1 four-star point guard playing this season at La Lumiere in Indiana, has narrowed his college choice to two programs: Cincinnati and Xavier. Per his agent, Robert Nieves of Bam Sports Agency, the decision will come Friday afternoon, Sept. 25, at roughly 4:30 p.m. at Lakota West High School, where Tyson previously starred.

As a junior at Lakota West, Tyson guided the Firebirds to a 24-2 season that ended in a regional final. He posted averages of 16.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists, shooting 62.9% from the field, 34.4% from three and 64.5% at the line. His season high of 28 points came in a one-point loss to La Lumiere, the school he now attends, and he closed the year with 20 points, 12 rebounds and six assists against Pickerington Central.

Beyond the two finalists, Tyson has held offers from Ohio State, Arizona State, Clemson, Penn State, West Virginia and Dayton. He took a May visit to see Cincinnati coach Jerrod Calhoun, describing it as smooth and calling Calhoun a proven winner. As of Tuesday, Sept. 22, Nieves said Tyson had not settled on a school.

Tyson is friendly with Cincinnati commit Kameron Mercer, who led Princeton to a Division I state title, and Mercer has shared photos encouraging Tyson to join the Bearcats. The announcement comes roughly 70 days before the annual Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout between the two rivals, set for Dec. 5 at Fifth Third Arena.
