Klopp's Germany Debut Ends in 1-1 Draw as Haaland Doubles Up for Norway

Jürgen Klopp's first match as Germany coach finished level in Amsterdam, while Erling Haaland struck twice in Norway's 3-2 win over Denmark in the Nations League.

Jürgen Klopp's reign as Germany coach opened with a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Thursday in the UEFA Nations League. Germany led through Felix Nmecha's 32nd-minute goal, but Cody Gakpo rescued a point for the hosts with a volley in the second minute of stoppage time, connecting with a cross from Ruben van Bommel.

The goal came amid an eventful and often tense evening for the Dutch. Virgil van Dijk and Jonathan Tah exchanged heated words after Nmecha's opener, which the Dutch players disputed because Germany continued playing while Brian Brobbey was down injured. Brobbey had to leave the match with what appeared to be a hamstring problem, and plastic cups were thrown onto the field during the German celebrations.

There were further flashpoints after the interval, notably following a rough challenge by Nadiem Amiri on Denzel Dumfries. Dumfries stayed on and later clashed with Germany captain Joshua Kimmich. The match was also the first for the Netherlands under new coach Xavi Hernández, with both traditional rivals seeking to reverse recent declines.

Germany's lineup was reshaped before kickoff. Amiri started only because Jamal Musiala picked up a thigh issue during the warmup, while Kai Havertz went off early after grabbing the back of his left thigh. In the group's other fixture, Tasos Douvikas scored a last-second winner as Greece beat Serbia 2-1 in Belgrade.

Elsewhere in the Nations League, Erling Haaland scored twice as Norway edged Denmark 3-2 in Oslo, bringing his international record to 64 goals in 56 appearances. Portugal won 1-0 at home to Wales in Jorge Jesus' first match in charge, with João Félix scoring early from outside the box. Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, played 67 minutes alongside Félix in attack.
