The race for this year's Hurler of the Year has come down to three players. Diarmaid Byrnes and Gearoid Hegarty, both part of Limerick's All-Ireland triumph, are joined on the shortlist by Cork forward Brian Hayes. The winner will be revealed at the GAA All-Star awards ceremony on October 30.
Both Limerick men already know what it takes to win the award. Byrnes earned the honor in 2022, while Hegarty claimed it two years earlier, in 2020.
All-Ireland winners Limerick dominate the All-Star nominations with 13 players recognized after a season that also brought the Munster title and the National League crown. Galway, who fell at the final hurdle in the All-Ireland decider, received 11 nominations, and Cork picked up seven. Clare, a beaten semi-finalist, has three, with quarter-finalists Dublin and Offaly taking three and two respectively. Waterford secured two spots and Kilkenny one, giving eight counties representation in total.
The Young Hurler of the Year category features Galway pair Jason Rabbitte and Cillian Travers alongside Cork's William Buckley.
