Manchester United have named Kobbie Mainoo, Youri Tielemans and Matheus Cunha as finalists for the club's Player of the Month award after a tough September.
Manchester United have revealed their three nominees for the September Player of the Month award: Kobbie Mainoo, Youri Tielemans and Matheus Cunha. Eight players were initially put forward, but internal voting narrowed the list to three, with supporters now deciding the winner of the trophy.
September was a struggle for United, who won only once in five matches across all competitions. They opened with a 4-0 Champions League victory over Sabah, then drew 2-2 with Everton in the Premier League, lost 1-0 at home to Manchester City despite City playing over an hour with ten men, fell 3-2 to Brighton & Hove Albion in the EFL Cup, and closed the month with a 1-1 draw against Fulham.
Captain Bruno Fernandes, who took the August award, missed the cut after a month in which he scored once. Tielemans, a summer signing from Aston Villa, started every game, assisted Fernandes against Sabah and set up Shea Lacey's first senior goal against Brighton, while also wearing the armband in the EFL Cup defeat.
Cunha featured in all five matches, scoring against Sabah and grabbing the late equalizer against Fulham. Mainoo started every match except the Brighton loss, when he came off the bench, and provided the assist for Bryan Mbeumo's goal against Fulham. He finished runner-up to Fernandes for the August honor.
