Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has withdrawn from Slovenia's upcoming international matches because of an injury. The club confirmed the withdrawal in a statement released Monday.

Sesko sat out United's 1-1 draw with Fulham over the weekend. Interim manager Michael Carrick told reporters after the match that the forward had picked up a problem and would be assessed by the club's medical staff.

A report relayed by The Peoples Person suggests the issue is likely a recurrence of the shin trouble that kept Sesko sidelined late last season and during pre-season. Concerns exist that the injury could be serious, though United have not issued a definitive update.

Sesko addressed the setback publicly, saying he was sorry to miss Slovenia's matches and that the most important thing now is dedicating himself fully to recovery. He said he is already working to return to the field as soon as possible to help both his national team and his club.

The striker added that he believes in his teammates and will be supporting Slovenia from home until he can wear the national jersey again.

Sesko has scored twice this season, finding the net against Everton in the Premier League and in a Champions League win over Sabah FK at Old Trafford.
