Brazilian flyweight Marcos Degli claimed a UFC contract on Tuesday at Dana White's Contender Series, held at the Meta Apex. Competing in Week 7 of Season 10, Degli finished American opponent Paris Moran with a standing one-arm rear-naked choke.
The submission came at 4:46 of the second round and ran Degli's winning streak to 13 consecutive victories. The performance was enough to convince UFC CEO Dana White to hand him a deal with the promotion.
Degli, now 15-3 as a professional, started his career 2-3 before putting together his current 13-fight run. He has been regarded as one of Brazil's more promising flyweight prospects, with a submission game that complements his striking.
After the fight, an emotional Degli paid tribute to his late grandmother. "I lost my grandma at the start of the year and I wish that she was here to see where her grandson made it. We made it," he said. "I am sure she would be really proud. I am gonna make her really proud."
Degli also credited his wife for her support, calling her "the most invaluable thing I have in my life" and adding, "She's there for me no matter what."
