Bayern's Eberl: Luis Díaz to rest and train on own program during break

The winger was left off Colombia's squad and will follow a tailored plan as he rebuilds toward full training, according to Bayern's sporting director.
Luis Díaz has been left out of Colombia's squad for friendlies against Mexico, Paraguay and Peru, and Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl says the time away will be spent recovering before a phased return.
Eberl noted that with the games not carrying great stakes following the World Cup, a pause can benefit players. He added that Díaz has logged a heavy schedule, including the World Cup and last season, and expects him to take a short holiday before easing back in under his own training program. Eberl said there is no reason for concern about the player's fitness.
The workload figures back that up. Since arriving at Bayern, the 29-year-old made 51 appearances in his first campaign and played five matches for Colombia at the 2026 World Cup. In the Bundesliga this season he has one goal across his opening four league matches, prior to the 7-0 win over Union Berlin.
Colombia coach Néstor Lorenzo said earlier that a conversation with Díaz left him sensing the winger was fatigued, which prompted the decision to leave him out. Bayern's aim is for the forward to recharge and return to form once club play resumes.
