Seattle coach Mike Macdonald said there is a chance Darnold plays in Week 3 as the winless Commanders deal with Jayden Daniels' elbow injury.
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold may be back under center when the team hosts the Washington Commanders in Week 3. Head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters Monday that the plan is for Darnold to be out there in some capacity, with his workload to be determined in the coming days. Speaking on a Seattle radio station, Macdonald added that there is a chance Darnold plays, according to Brady Henderson of ESPN.
Darnold was hurt on the fifth play of Seattle's season opener against the New England Patriots. The injury initially looked serious but turned out to be a glute issue expected to sideline him for a few weeks. Backup Drew Lock has played well in his absence, helping the Seahawks to a 2-0 start.
Washington enters the game at 0-2 and will be without quarterback Jayden Daniels, who dislocated his left, non-throwing elbow. Daniels first dislocated the same elbow in 2025, coincidentally against Seattle.
Darnold has a strong recent history against Washington. Facing the Commanders on the road last season, he did not throw an incompletion until the third quarter, finishing 21 of 24 for 330 yards with four touchdowns and an interception in a 38-14 Seattle win.
