Florida State Meets Virginia Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2

FanDuel makes Virginia a 2.5-point favorite Saturday on ESPN2 as ACC play resumes for the Seminoles, closing a busy FSU sports weekend.

Florida State's football team evened its season record Saturday at .500 by beating Central Arkansas, an FCS opponent, 34-7. Receiver Jayvan Boggs turned in the finest game of his career in the win.

ACC competition is next on the slate. The Seminoles take on Virginia on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2, and FanDuel's current line lists the Cavaliers as 2.5-point favorites. Working back toward an even mark in league play stands as the next item on Florida State's agenda.

Jordan Silversmith examined whether Mike Norvell's reunion with his alma mater may go down as the final uplifting moment of his Florida State tenure. Curt Weiler wrote that the Central Arkansas contest was the last soft stretch before the conference grind and that the way Florida State won did little to quiet concerns.

Fifteen players appeared in a Florida State uniform for the first time against the Bears, after which Norvell said his group still has "a lot of areas where we can continue to improve upon." A poll taken before Saturday's win showed 57% of readers grading Ashton Daniels' season to that point as a C. Jon Loesche also published the newest entry in his series on the ACC's push to pass the Protect College Sports Act.

No. 22 Florida State soccer resumed play with a 0-0 draw at Louisville. The result came in the Seminoles' first match following a layoff.

The volleyball team slipped to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the ACC with Sunday's 3-0 loss to Miami, now 3-8 and 1-1. Florida State generated 43 kills to the Hurricanes' 40, and the sides finished level at 37 digs. Senior outside hitter Kyleene Filimaua was the match's top scorer at 20.5 points, posting 19 kills on a team-leading .421 hitting percentage, freshman outside hitter Sofia Moss supplied 10 kills and seven digs, and junior setter Emma Lilo added a team-best 24 assists plus eight digs.

The first set flipped when Miami answered Florida State's 24-23 set point with a 4-1 finishing burst to steal it 27-25. Miami then took the second 25-20, and after a 5-0 spurt erased most of a 19-13 Florida State edge in the third, the Hurricanes completed the sweep 25-23. The Seminoles now begin a five-match homestand at Tully Gymnasium on Friday against NC State, their annual Paint it Pink match, with first serve at 6 p.m. on ACCNX.

Both Florida State cross country squads produced program records at Friday's Gans Creek Classic. In a field of 247 runners, Bieke Schipperen headed the women in 14th at 19:54.5, with Rylee Blade 21st (20:09.6), Nicole Dinan 30th in a lifetime-best 20:22.4, Madie King 39th in a personal-best 20:31.1 and Bella Griener closing the scoring in 20:40.6, also a career mark, as the women took third with 148 points. All five men's scorers posted career-best times over the 8k, led by Kaden Levings in 16th at 23:07.2 and followed by Isaac Hirshman Chandler (32nd, 23:29.5), Aidan Ryan (53rd, 23:53.8), Finn Thomas (71st, 24:01.2) and Graham Myers (86th, 24:08.8), with the men placing seventh on 253 points. The squads race next at home in the FSU XC Invite on Oct. 9 at Apalachee Regional Park.

Women's golf holds the No. 16 spot in the first WGCA Coaches Poll of the 2026 fall campaign. The Seminoles are 25-6 through three events, with a team title, a top-three finish and a victory against the nation's preseason No. 1. The fall opened with a championship at the Folds of Honor Collegiate, where Florida State erased a seven-shot deficit entering the final round behind a 5-under 283, finishing at 3-under 861 to edge Texas A&M — the program's first crown in an event it co-hosts with Michigan State and has played in three straight seasons, and its first season-opening win since the 2016 Schooner Fall Classic. Florida State then moved on to the Jackson T. Stephens Cup, joining a field that included five preseason top-15 teams.
