Virginia answered its neutral-site loss to West Virginia in emphatic fashion Saturday night, defeating Delaware 42-3 at Scott Stadium on 'UVA Strong' night. The Cavaliers moved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in ACC play with the win.
Quarterback Beau Pribula fueled the rout with five total touchdowns. The senior completed 24 of 28 passes for 279 yards and four scores through the air while adding 24 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground, showcasing his dual-threat ability throughout the night.
Virginia wasted no time asserting control, opening the game with a 75-yard drive capped by an 11-yard touchdown pass to Da'Shawn Martin. Pribula was perfect on the drive, going 8-for-8 for 65 yards. A missed 37-yard field goal by Will Bettridge kept the Cavaliers from adding more in the first quarter, but the defense held Delaware to two total yards in the opening period.
The Cavaliers struck again on the first play of the second quarter, with Pribula hitting Rico Flores Jr. for a seven-yard touchdown. Flores, a UCLA transfer in his third game with the program after missing the first two and catching one pass against West Virginia, broke out with nine receptions for 113 yards as a go-to target.
Delaware's only points came on a 39-yard field goal following a 12-play, 53-yard drive that cut the lead to 14-3. The Blue Hens then lost quarterback Nick Minicucci to an apparent knee injury with 5:58 left in the second quarter, and the offense managed just seven first downs the rest of the game without its Second-Team All-CUSA signal-caller.
Virginia pulled away before halftime with two touchdown catches from Cam Kourtney, the second coming with one second remaining in the second quarter. Kourtney, a third-year Virginia native, finished with four receptions for 89 yards and two scores. Pribula added a 14-yard touchdown run on the first possession of the second half before giving way to the backups.
Backup quarterback Eli Holstein completed 8 of 12 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown in relief, with third-stringer Cole Greer taking over late in the fourth quarter. The Cavaliers finished with 556 total yards to Delaware's 160 and limited the Blue Hens to 12 first downs while recording two takeaways, both interceptions by Keke Adams.
