Two 2-3 Kentucky high school football teams meet Friday in Berea as Paul Laurence Dunbar faces Madison Southern at 7:30 p.m.
Paul Laurence Dunbar hits the road Friday, Sept. 25, traveling to Berea for a matchup with the Madison Southern Eagles. Both teams enter at 2-3 and are trying to reach .500 before district play begins. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at James R. Williams Stadium.
The Bulldogs arrive off their most complete performance of the season, a 35-0 shutout of Great Crossing in which they put up 21 points in the opening quarter. A win Friday would give Dunbar consecutive victories for the first time in 2026.
Dunbar head coach Wes Johnson said the game will come down to execution and matching Madison Southern's physicality rather than finding a weakness to attack. Senior linebacker Serigne Cisse added that staying healthy is the key to the team's outlook, noting that the Great Crossing game was the first all season in which nobody got injured.
"I feel like if we can keep it that way for the rest of the season, we have a very bright season ahead of us," Cisse said.
