With the Ohio high school football regular season at its midpoint, the Canton Repository has opened fan voting on first-half superlatives for Stark County teams. Awards cover the best offensive player, defensive player, single-game performance, coach and team through the first five weeks.
The offensive player candidates include Ty DeGeorge of Lake, who has accounted for 682 yards from scrimmage and 10 touchdowns for the 4-1 Blue Streaks. Grady Hirst of West Branch has thrown for 1,033 yards and rushed for 536, totaling 19 touchdowns while leading his team to a 5-0 start.
Perry's Jonathan Lemon, second in the Federal League with 727 rushing yards, averages 7.3 yards per carry with eight touchdowns. Jackson's Chase Maurer leads the Federal League in rushing with 873 yards at 7.2 yards per carry and has added 170 yards receiving on 12 catches.
