Southeast golf advances as Chagrin Falls clinches CVC title in Portage County week

Portage County high school results for the week of Sept. 21, 2026, included sectional golf qualifiers and a Chagrin Valley Conference soccer championship.
Southeast earned the final team qualifying spot from the Division II Windmill Lakes sectional, finishing six strokes ahead of Streetsboro, 345-351. Cole Bruno and Owen Dombroski each shot 85, with Alex Peelish (86) and Ethan Shodd (89) also counting toward the Pirates' total. All qualifiers return to Windmill Lakes on Sept. 29 for the district tournament.
Streetsboro senior Dominic Marcini took an individual spot with an 80, while Garfield sophomore Carter Haddox and Chagrin Falls senior Peter Fischer grabbed the remaining two spots with rounds of 82. At the Pine Hills sectional, Field freshmen Zac Burgy and Mason Karg each posted 82, one stroke short of qualifying, with the Falcons finishing at 343 as a team.
In boys soccer, Chagrin Falls beat Rootstown 2-0 to secure the Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division title. Both Tigers goals came in the first half, one off a free kick header and another off a cross shortly before the break. The teams combined for eight shots on goal, five by Chagrin Falls and three by Rootstown (8-1-1, 3-1-1).
In volleyball, Berkshire swept Rootstown 25-20, 25-10, 25-16 despite Ella Hayn's 32 digs for the Rovers (9-4, 3-3 CVC). Alexa Sladky added 21 digs and Sophia Byers had 14 digs and seven kills. Cardinal also swept Windham 25-14, 25-12, 25-15, and Grand Valley beat Windham by the same scores, with Makenzi Blockinger scoring 10 service points including five aces.
