Leonard joined the Raptors this offseason in a trade from the Los Angeles Clippers. The deal was originally struck on June 30 but was held up while the NBA investigated allegations of salary cap circumvention related to the Clippers' signing of Leonard as a free agent. The league completed its review and the trade became official last week.
Leonard previously won a championship with Toronto, the second of his career, and Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer reported that extension talks had been progressing with the veteran eligible for up to two years and $126 million. The final agreement came in slightly below that figure at $115 million.
The extension gives the Raptors a cornerstone to build around as they aim to compete in the Eastern Conference this season.
