A set of hypothetical trades published Tuesday by Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports centers on the Pittsburgh Steelers dealing cornerback Joey Porter Jr. to the Detroit Lions. The speculation comes amid an unsettled stretch for Porter Jr. in Pittsburgh, and DeArdo laid out three possible versions of the move.
The first scenario is straightforward: Porter Jr. goes to Detroit in return for a second-round and a third-round selection. A second option has the Steelers packaging Porter Jr. with a third-round pick to acquire the Lions' first- and sixth-round choices in 2027.
The third proposal is the largest, sending Porter Jr., wide receiver DK Metcalf and a 2027 fourth-round pick to Detroit for the Lions' 2027 first-round selection and wideout Jameson Williams. DeArdo reasoned that Detroit might not include additional draft compensation in that version because it would be absorbing a portion of Metcalf's large contract.
DeArdo also noted that Metcalf's stint with the Steelers has fallen short of expectations and suggested the receiver could profit from a change of scenery alongside Amon-Ra St. Brown in Detroit. The scenarios are speculation only; no trade between the clubs has been reported as agreed.
