Report: Sunderland May Renew Interest in Marseille Winger Igor Paixao

Le Journal du Dimanche reports Sunderland could revisit a move for the Olympique Marseille winger in the January window after a near-miss last summer.

Sunderland are reportedly considering a renewed push to sign Olympique Marseille winger Igor Paixao when the January transfer window opens. According to Le Journal du Dimanche, the Premier League club could return for the Brazilian this winter.

The report states that Sunderland came close to completing a €30 million deal for Paixao earlier in the summer before the move failed to materialize.

Paixao, 26, scored 12 goals and recorded seven assists in 42 appearances for Marseille last season across all competitions. He is primarily a left winger but has also been used on the right flank and in an attacking midfield role.

Any January pursuit could prove difficult. Paixao remains under contract at Marseille until the summer of 2030, which weakens Sunderland's leverage to negotiate a lower fee.
