Tennessee high school football reached the midpoint of its regular season with Week 6 games played primarily on Sept. 24 and 25. The slate was dominated by region matchups across the TSSAA, the state's governing body for high school athletics, with final scores provided by the organization.
In East Tennessee, Alcoa rolled past Knoxville Fulton 41-7 in region play. Powell edged Knoxville Central 42-41 in a Thursday region game that was one of the closest results of the week. Austin-East outlasted Kingston 42-35, and David Crockett survived a one-point non-region test against Gate City, Virginia, 31-30.
Maryville, the state's most storied program, handled Hardin Valley 45-20 in a region game. Farragut shut out Bearden 10-0, Knoxville West beat Knoxville Halls 42-10, and Karns topped William Blount 43-17, all in region contests. Dobyns Bennett defeated West Ridge 49-23 and Science Hill blew past Jefferson County 56-9.
Baylor, a Chattanooga-area private school power, defeated Montgomery Bell Academy 45-17 in a matchup of independent-school programs. Other notable East Tennessee region results included Hampton over North Greene 48-7, Unicoi County over Pigeon Forge 42-7, and Walker Valley over Soddy Daisy 38-15. Rhea County posted the week's most lopsided region shutout in that section, beating East Hamilton 55-0.
In Middle Tennessee, Perry County crushed Gleason 57-0, one of the largest margins statewide. Montgomery Central beat Clarksville Academy 1-0 in the week's most unusual result. Region play around Nashville included Loudon's 28-12 win over East Ridge and a tight contest elsewhere, while many of the area's biggest games, such as Brentwood Academy at Ensworth and Blackman at Oakland, had not reported final scores at publication time.
Memphis-area results included several Thursday games: Melrose blanked Hamilton 42-0, Raleigh Egypt shut out Memphis East 38-0, Manassas beat Middleton 30-0, Hillcrest defeated Trezevant 27-0, and MASE got past Mitchell 14-6. On Friday, West Covington downed Ripley 36-3, Memphis Business Academy beat Bluff City 18-39 on the scoreboard's winning side, and Raleigh Egypt's shutout win stood among the city's most dominant performances.
Out-of-state results involving Tennessee schools were limited. St. George's of Tennessee defeated H.W. Byers, Mississippi, 7-0. Several other border matchups, including Knoxville Catholic's trip to Hoover, Alabama, and Lake County's game at Fulton County, Kentucky, were on the schedule.
A large number of games across all three grand divisions were still listed without final scores, including marquee contests such as McCallie hosting Loudoun Sports Academy from Virginia, Lipscomb Academy hosting Christian Brothers from Missouri, and Notre Dame hosting Lakeway Christian in the Chattanooga area. With the regular season now at its halfway point, region races across the TSSAA will begin shaping playoff positioning in the weeks ahead.
