Tennessee high school football teams opened the second half of the TSSAA regular season with Week 6 games on Sept. 24-25, with most programs facing region opponents.
Tennessee high school football reached the midpoint of its regular season with Week 6 games across the state. Most contests were played Sept. 24-25, and the majority of TSSAA programs faced region opponents as district races began to take shape. Final scores were provided by the TSSAA.
In East Tennessee, several traditional powers posted convincing wins. Maryville beat Hardin Valley 45-20, Alcoa rolled past Knoxville Fulton 41-7, and Baylor defeated MBA 45-17. Science Hill routed Jefferson County 56-9, while Farragut edged Bearden 10-0 in a defensive struggle.
Other East Tennessee results included Powell's narrow 42-41 win over Knoxville Central on Thursday, Clinton's 55-14 victory over Campbell County, and Gatlinburg-Pittman's 54-12 win against Claiborne. Karns downed William Blount 43-17, and Daniel Boone handled Cocke County 42-6.
In the Memphis area, Melrose shut out Hamilton 42-0 on Thursday, Raleigh Egypt blanked Memphis East 38-0, and Manassas beat Middleton 30-0. Hillcrest also posted a Thursday shutout, 27-0 over Trezevant. Memphis Business Academy defeated Bluff City 39-18, and MASE held off Mitchell 14-6.
Middle Tennessee produced just one completed final among the listed scores: Montgomery Central beat Clarksville Academy 1-0. Numerous other Middle Tennessee and West Tennessee games, including matchups such as Brentwood Academy at Ensworth, Blackman at Oakland, and Whitehaven at Munford, were listed without final scores in the report.
Out-of-state action involving Tennessee teams included St. George's 7-0 win over H.W. Byers of Mississippi. Several Tennessee programs also traveled for interstate games, with Knoxville Catholic set to play at Hoover, Alabama, and Silverdale scheduled to face H.W. Byers in Mississippi.
