Venice Beach will host the triathlon competition at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and Paralympics, with finish lines positioned along the Pacific coast. On Wednesday, LA 2028 organizers released an initial look at the routes for the men's and women's Olympic races, the mixed relay, and the Paralympic events.
The women's Olympic triathlon, scheduled for Saturday, July 15, 2028, will be the first event of the Games to hand out medals in any sport. It also marks a rare start format: competitors will enter the water directly from the beach, something seen only once before at an Olympics, at Rio 2016.
In the individual races, athletes will swim .93 miles before taking on a looping 24.85-mile bike leg and a 6.25-mile run. LA28 has published further breakdowns of each segment of the courses.
A World Triathlon T50 competition is planned for July 2027 and will be held on the same course being prepared for the 2028 Games.
