OL Lyonnes Open Champions League Bid at Servette Chasing Ninth Title

Damaris Egurrola says the French club are focused on winning their first UEFA Women's Champions League since 2022, starting Wednesday against Servette in Switzerland.

OL Lyonnes begin their UEFA Women's Champions League campaign on Wednesday with a league-phase trip to Switzerland to face Servette. The French club have won the competition a record eight times, double the tally of closest rivals Eintracht Frankfurt and Barcelona, but have not lifted the trophy since 2022.

Dutch midfielder Damaris Egurrola said the Champions League carries special weight at the club. "Every season that we start, we know our objectives, and this year isn't any less," she said. "We're missing also that last game that we couldn't really bring the trophy home."

Last season, Lyon won a domestic treble but fell 4-0 to Barcelona in the final in Oslo, their second European final defeat since 2022. Jonatan Giráldez, now in his second season in charge, previously won two Champions League titles and three Liga F crowns across three seasons with Barcelona, and Egurrola said the squad's growing familiarity with his system has brought added confidence.

Lyon head into the campaign in strong domestic form, topping the Arkema Première Ligue with nine points from three matches and 22 goals scored, spread across nine different scorers, including 7-1 wins over Fleury and Paris FC and an 8-1 win over Le Havre. Egurrola noted the team wants to tighten up after conceding once in each of their three league games.

After Servette, Lyon face Chelsea, Inter, Juventus, Arsenal and BK Häcken in the league phase. Wednesday's match kicks off at 17:45 BST, and every UWCL match is available live on Disney+ for existing subscribers.
