India batter Rinku Singh has voiced his hope that veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be in the squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup and can help the country end its long wait for the title, which dates back to 2011. Speaking to JioStar, he called the pair legends and said the entire nation wants them in the team that lifts the trophy, noting it could be their final World Cup.
Rinku, a middle-order batter with two ODI and 48 T20I appearances, was part of the India side that won the 2026 T20 World Cup at home. He also said he wants to be remembered as a World Cup winner rather than for the five straight sixes he hit in a single IPL over for Kolkata Knight Riders against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad in 2023.
Addressing the view that he is a one-format player, Rinku pointed to his domestic record in both one-day and four-day games and said he dreams of earning a Test cap for India. He has not featured in India squads since the tour of Zimbabwe in July.
On leadership, Rinku said he is still developing as a captain. He led a team to the title in the UP League, served as Kolkata Knight Riders vice-captain last season, and credited Ajinkya Rahane at KKR and Suryakumar Yadav in the national setup as influences.
Rinku closed by reflecting on his rise from a childhood without money, saying those memories keep him grounded and that he considers his journey a blessing.
