Zach Johnson Captures Sixth PGA Tour Champions Title at Pebble Beach

Zach Johnson shot a closing 7-under 65 to win the Pure Insurance Championship by two shots at 14-under 202.

Zach Johnson claimed the Pure Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach, his sixth win in just 15 career starts on the PGA Tour Champions. The two-time major champion from Iowa finished at 14-under 202, two strokes clear of Henrik Stenson, Steven Alker and Rory Sabbatini.

Johnson closed with a 7-under 65 on Sunday. He eagled the par-4 second hole and traded the lead with Sabbatini, who carded the lowest round of the week with a 63 and finished at 12 under. Johnson moved back in front with a birdie on the 13th and sealed the title by reaching the par-5 18th green in two and taking two putts from 35 feet for birdie.

The victory, played amid foggy conditions on the Monterey Peninsula, is Johnson's second in a row following a win at the Sanford International in South Dakota. It also moved him past Stewart Cink for the most PGA Tour Champions titles this season.

Stenson closed with a 68, while Alker posted a 67 after arriving on a run of three consecutive wins. Johnson, whose PGA Tour résumé includes 12 victories headlined by the 2007 Masters and the 2015 British Open, told ESPN he felt in control of his game throughout the final round. The 50-and-over circuit moves on to the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, where the season points race narrows.
