Alabama State (2-1) could be without starting quarterback Andrew Body when it opens SWAC play against Mississippi Valley State at ASU Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 26. Head coach Eddie Robinson Jr. told reporters that Body's availability will be decided just before kickoff.
Body hurt his non-throwing hand during Alabama State's Week 2 game against Troy, landing on it and missing the Hornets' final offensive drive. He was spotted afterward with his left wrist wrapped, and Robinson later confirmed the wrist was sprained without detailing the severity or a recovery timeline.
Body did not appear on the field during the portion of practice observed by reporters ahead of Robinson's weekly press conference. In three games this season, he has completed 37 of 60 passes (61.6%) for 410 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, adding 79 rushing yards on 24 carries.
If Body is unable to play, Robinson said true freshman Aaron Frye would get the start. Frye, an Alabama native from Clay-Chalkville High School, where he won an AHSAA Class 6A state title and was named the championship game's MVP, has seen limited action this season, going 0-for-3 passing with 31 rushing yards on five carries.
