The Los Angeles Chargers have signed wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to their 53-man roster, per NFL insider Tom Pelissero. The move comes a week after the team added him to its practice squad.
The Chargers were hit by multiple injuries at wide receiver in Week 1. Valdes-Scantling could be on the field as soon as Sunday, when Los Angeles hosts its Week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills.
Valdes-Scantling, 31, is entering his ninth NFL season. The Chargers are the seventh team of his career, following stops with the Packers, Chiefs, Bills, Steelers, 49ers and Saints. He won two Super Bowl titles with Kansas City.
Last season, he split time between San Francisco and Pittsburgh, appearing in 10 games and catching 14 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown.
He joins a receiver room that includes Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston and Tre Harris. The Chargers offense has opened the season slowly, averaging 200.5 yards per game and ranking 21st in passing at 185.0 yards per contest.
