Jets sign quarterback Will Levis to practice squad

The former Tennessee Titans starter and Connecticut native joins New York's practice squad after being waived by Tennessee in August.

The New York Jets signed quarterback Will Levis to their practice squad on Tuesday, bringing the Connecticut native back to the Tri-State Area. The move came with a corresponding roster decision, as New York released quarterback Bailey Zappe.

Levis, 27, entered the NFL as the No. 33 overall pick of the 2023 draft by the Tennessee Titans. His tenure in Nashville ended in late August when the Titans waived him after he lost the backup competition to Mitch Trubisky.

The Jets currently carry two quarterbacks on the active roster: veteran Geno Smith, who has started both of New York's games this season, and fourth-round 2026 draft pick Cade Klubnik.

Levis appeared in 21 starts over two seasons with Tennessee, throwing 16 interceptions and compiling a 5-16 record. The Titans' selection of Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in last year's draft signaled the end of Levis' run as the franchise's starter, and he sat out the entire 2025 season after surgery on his throwing shoulder.

Before the NFL, Levis played at Penn State and then Kentucky, where he passed for 5,233 yards and 43 touchdowns against 23 interceptions over two seasons. He starred at Xavier High School in Madison, Connecticut, setting single-season school marks of 2,793 passing yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior.
