Turki Alalshikh, owner of Ring Magazine and chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, confirmed the matchup on Thursday, noting that no one had managed to make the fight happen over the past 15 years.
The all-British heavyweight rivalry has been more than a decade in the making, with the two having circled each other since 2015. Along the way, both men faced nearly everyone else first, including Fury's trilogy with Deontay Wilder and Joshua's bouts with Oleksandr Usyk, while multiple rounds of negotiations between them collapsed.
The deal nearly fell apart again in recent weeks. Fury, unhappy with the venue, threatened to abandon talks and raised the possibility of a third fight against Usyk instead. According to reports, Joshua had a UK location written into his agreement from the outset, while Fury favored a larger stage in the United States. Cardiff ultimately won out.
Ring Magazine is promoting the card, with UFC and Zuffa Boxing president Dana White partnering alongside Alalshikh, while Netflix handles the broadcast. The arrangement mirrors the three-way setup that has become common in boxing's biggest fights this year, though unlike the Garcia-Benn card, this event is not branded as a Zuffa Boxing show.
No world title will be on the line, but the bout still ranks among the most significant heavyweight matchups on the schedule. Both fighters are former unified champions and major commercial draws, and the contest is widely viewed as a legacy fight.
