Bountiful Overcomes Four-Turnover Night to Top Viewmont 28-19 in Region 6 Rivalry

A tipped 40-yard Hail Mary and 14 unanswered second-half points carried the Redhawks past Viewmont despite losing the turnover battle by four on Homecoming.
Bountiful defeated visiting Viewmont 28-19 on Friday night, Sept. 25, 2026, in a Region 6 high school football matchup at Bountiful High School. The game doubled as Bountiful's Homecoming and carried rivalry bragging rights for the two Utah schools.
The Redhawks won despite significant self-inflicted trouble. Bountiful lost the turnover battle by four and committed roughly half a dozen offensive holding penalties, errors that repeatedly stalled drives and kept the Vikings within striking distance.
Viewmont linebacker Owen Seeley turned one of those takeaways into points, returning an interception for a touchdown in the second quarter to put the Vikings ahead 13-7. Viewmont held that lead deep into the first half and appeared set to carry it into the break.
Instead, Bountiful struck on the final play of the half. Quarterback Hudson Malmrose launched a 40-yard Hail Mary toward Will Smoot, and after a Viewmont defender tipped the ball at the goal line, it sailed over the crowd and into Smoot's hands for the score. The play flipped the game's momentum heading into halftime.
Bountiful then finished the contest with 14 unanswered points, executing well on both offense and defense to pull away for the nine-point win.
Redhawks coach Jason Freckleton praised his team's composure and how players responded to one another's mistakes. "Our guys hung in there, battled, rallied around each other. Really proud of the way they supported each other tonight. If someone made a mistake, the other guy was there to pick him up and support him and tell him they believe in him," Freckleton said. He also acknowledged Viewmont's role in creating the turnovers that made the game competitive.
The Redhawks outgained the Vikings 469 yards to 229 in total offense, more than doubling their rivals' output, and used a size advantage on the offensive and defensive lines for much of the night. Even so, the giveaways kept Viewmont in the game until the closing stretch.
Viewmont's final drive of the first half overcame two offensive holding penalties of its own to set up the failed end-zone heave that preceded Bountiful's Hail Mary. Freckleton noted his team "did give ourselves a chance by going down the field" and said he was proud of how his players finished the two-minute sequence.
The result extended Bountiful's dominance in the series. The Redhawks have now won seven of the last eight meetings with Viewmont and lead the all-time series 38-24.
