Daboll downplays emotions as Titans prepare to face Giants

Tennessee's offensive coordinator returns to MetLife Stadium on Sunday, where he coached the New York Giants for four seasons before being fired in 2025.
Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll will face his former team when the Titans (0-2) visit the New York Giants (1-1) on Sunday, Sept. 27 at MetLife Stadium. The game kicks off at noon and airs on CBS.
Daboll, who was fired by the Giants during the 2025 season, spoke to reporters on Sept. 24 and kept his comments complimentary. He said he has "a ton of respect" for the people in the organization and thanked the Tisch family, the Giants' majority owners, for the opportunity.
Daboll coached the Giants for four seasons, going 9-7-1 and making the playoffs in his first year, when he was named the Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year. His overall record slipped to 20-40-1, and he was dismissed after a 2-8 start in 2025 that included a 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears — the team's fourth blown double-digit lead of that stretch.
Titans receiver Wan'Dale Robinson, who played for the Giants during Daboll's tenure, said the losses that preceded the firing were not blamed on the coach alone. Robinson signed a four-year, $78 million contract with Tennessee in free agency and said Daboll's presence on the Titans staff made the decision easier. He also suggested the New York media pressure wore on Daboll over time.
Daboll also addressed the knee injury to Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart, who was hurt against the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 21 and will miss most of the season. He offered his support to Dart and his family, calling the league a competitive but human business.
The matchup carries extra familiarity on both sidelines. Former Titans head coach Brian Callahan now serves as the Giants' passing game coordinator, and former Titans defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson is the Giants' defensive coordinator. Several former Giants assistants, including Carmen Bricillo, Cade Knox and Shea Tierney, joined Daboll's staff in Tennessee.
