Players with Indiana high school and college ties posted tackles, sacks and perfect kicking days across the NFL's second week of the season.
Players with ties to Indiana high schools and colleges were active across the NFL in Week 2, with several turning in standout defensive performances. Baltimore Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton, a Notre Dame product, led the group with 13 tackles and a tackle for loss in a 24-17 loss to New Orleans. New Orleans linebacker Pete Werner, who prepped at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, added 11 tackles, a sack and a tackle for loss against the Ravens.
Kansas City linebacker Drue Tranquill, another Notre Dame alum from Carroll High School in Fort Wayne, recorded eight tackles, two for loss, and a pass defended in the Chiefs' 33-30 win over Indianapolis. Colts defensive tackle Jerry Tillery had three tackles and a sack in that game. Detroit linebacker Derrick Barnes, from Purdue, finished with seven tackles and a sack in the Lions' 41-31 loss to Buffalo.
Two kickers with Notre Dame ties were perfect on the week. Dallas kicker Brandon Aubrey hit all three field goals and all four extra points in a 37-20 win over Washington, while Indianapolis kicker Spencer Shrader went 3-for-3 on field goals and 3-for-3 on extra points. Seattle tight end AJ Barner, an Indiana University product, scored a rushing touchdown in the Seahawks' 31-7 win over Arizona.
Other notable contributors included Atlanta safeties Jessie Bates III (six tackles) and Xavier Watts (seven tackles) in a 34-3 loss to Carolina, Chicago defenders Benjamin Morrison and Dillon Thieneman with seven tackles each, and Washington receiver Terry McLaurin, a Cathedral High School alum, with two catches for 50 yards against Dallas.
