Jannik Sinner is set to make his return to the ATP Tour at next week's ATP 500 event in Beijing, ending an absence of more than two months. The Italian has been managing a right knee problem that surfaced at the end of his title run at Wimbledon in July.
Beijing is a familiar stopping point for Sinner. He has reached the final there in each of the past three years and won the title twice, and he will be defending champion this time around. From Beijing he will move on to the Rolex Shanghai Masters, an event he won in 2024 before an early exit last year, when he struggled with cramping in the humid conditions.
After the Asian swing, Sinner will join five other top players at the Six Kings Slam exhibition in Saudi Arabia, an event he has won in each of its first two editions, earning $6 million on each occasion.
His indoor European season begins at the ATP 500 in Vienna, followed by the Rolex Paris Masters, the final Masters 1000 event of the year and a tune-up for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. Sinner has won the season-ending championship in each of the past two years without dropping a set in either campaign. Whether he plays the Davis Cup Finals remains undecided; he skipped the event last year despite having led Italy to two titles.
The layoff has allowed rivals, notably Alexander Zverev, to close ground in the race for year-end No. 1. Sinner still holds a tour-best 44-3 match record this season, a run that includes five consecutive Masters 1000 titles and the Wimbledon crown.
