Chariho stays unbeaten in Division I boys soccer with 3-0 win over North Smithfield

The Chargers improved to 9-0-1 in their first Division I season, while South Kingstown snatched a late 2-2 draw with East Greenwich on a last-second header.

Chariho continued its smooth transition from Division II to Division I on Wednesday night, beating North Smithfield 3-0 to remain one of three unbeaten teams in the top division. The Chargers, now 9-0-1, were coming off a 1-0 win over East Providence on Monday.

Chariho built its lead in the opening half. Kasey Poplaski scored off a through ball from Luca Fusaro in the 12th minute, and four minutes later Fusaro set up Colby Vennett for a 2-0 advantage. Dylan Edenbach converted a penalty just before halftime after a foul in the box. North Smithfield, still winless at 0-7-1, could not mount a response after the break.

In another Division I matchup, South Kingstown and East Greenwich finished level at 2-2 after Charles Giraitis headed in a Brandon Tisdale corner kick with no time remaining at Old Mountain Field. East Greenwich had led twice in the second half, with Allesandro Gomez opening the scoring off a pass from Beckett Marinelli and Blake Monaghan putting the Avengers ahead 2-1 after Brady Parks saved a penalty. Eamonn Murrin had earlier drawn South Kingstown level with a header off another Tisdale corner.

East Greenwich moved to 1-3-2 and South Kingstown to 1-1-3. Parks finished with nine saves, including a tip over the crossbar on a long-range Tisdale drive in the 20th minute. Both teams were missing key attackers to injury, with Andrey Goretoy out for the Avengers and Cole McCall sidelined for the Rebels.

Elsewhere in boys soccer, Exeter-West Greenwich improved to 7-0 in Division III with a 4-0 win over Prout, as Johnny DePietro scored twice to extend his streak of scoring in every game this season. Aidan Rumgay made seven saves for his fourth shutout. Cranston East beat West Warwick 3-0 in Division II behind goals from William Adenmosun, Michael Ogunmola and Jackson Guyon, with West Warwick keeper Tyler Brown making 12 saves.

In girls soccer, Narragansett defeated Westerly 3-1 in Division II. Delaney Bonneau finished with a goal and an assist, Haley DeAngelis and Anabella Radom added goals, and Sienna Mathieu scored for the Bulldogs.
