Judson debuts at No. 15 after its Hammer Bowl win over Wagner, while Johnson and Smithson Valley hold the top two spots in the Week 6 rankings.
Judson appears in the San Antonio Express-News high school football power rankings for the first time this season, landing at No. 15 after Saturday's Hammer Bowl win over Wagner. The Rockets are 2-0 in District 29-6A under first-year coach Vernon Hughes, with district wins over Clemens and Wagner following non-district losses to Hutto and Austin Bowie. Judson hosts Pieper on Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Rutledge Stadium.
The top of the list is unchanged. No. 1 Johnson (3-0) has not lost a regular-season game since Sept. 6, 2024, a span of 21 contests, and hosts Brandeis on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Comalander Stadium. No. 2 Smithson Valley (4-0) has won its three District 13-5A-I games by a combined 226-28 and meets Kyle Lehman on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Shelton Stadium in Buda.
No. 3 Steele (3-1-1) brings a 31-game district winning streak into a 7 p.m. home game against San Marcos on Oct. 8 at Lehnhoff Stadium. No. 4 Brennan (4-1) has posted shutouts in three of its last four games and hosts Holmes on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Gustafson Stadium.
The Boerne schools hold the next two spots. No. 5 Boerne (5-0) beat Alamo Heights 38-31 on Friday, its third consecutive win over the Mules in the last 12 months, and hosts New Braunfels Long Creek on Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. at Boerne ISD Stadium. No. 6 Boerne Champion (5-0) has reached 60 points three times this season, including last week's 61-32 win over Austin Anderson, and plays at Lockhart on Friday at 7 p.m.
Alamo Heights (4-1) slipped from seventh to ninth with that loss and visits winless Long Creek on Friday at 7 p.m. The week's marquee pairing of ranked teams comes Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Davenport Stadium, where No. 7 Davenport (3-1), 3-1 all-time against Kerrville Tivy, hosts No. 13 Tivy (4-0). The Antlers have scored 70 points in each of their last two games, beating Austin LBJ 70-14 and Churchill 77-41.
No. 8 Medina Valley (4-0) takes an 11-game regular-season winning streak to Southside on Friday at 7:30 p.m., while No. 10 Harlan (4-1) has allowed just three touchdowns since a 42-7 loss to Dripping Springs three weeks ago and faces Taft on Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. at Farris Stadium. No. 11 La Vernia (4-1) plays at Kennedy for the first time Friday at 7 p.m. No. 12 East Central (4-1), which has won four straight since an opening loss to Harlan, hosts Wagner on Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Hornet Stadium, and No. 14 Cornerstone (4-1) begins a stretch of six games against out-of-state opponents Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. John's College HS in Washington, D.C.
Warren and Roosevelt re-entered the rankings alongside the newcomers. No. 17 Warren (3-2) rode four touchdown passes from Mac Anderson to a 34-13 win over Taft and hosts Sotomayor on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Gustafson Stadium. No. 18 Roosevelt (2-2) evened its record by beating Madison 45-43 in four overtimes after an 0-2 start and meets LEE on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Heroes Stadium.
Madison fell from No. 11 to No. 19 after that defeat. The Mavericks had given up only 16 points across their first three games and host Clark on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Farris Stadium.
No. 16 Somerset (2-2), which faced four 5A teams in non-district play before District 14-4A-I, hosts No. 20 Floresville on Friday at 7 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium in the week's other ranked-vs-ranked game. Floresville (4-1) is making its rankings debut with its best season in four years; the Tigers had not won four games in a season since 2022. Brandeis, Clemens, LEE and Pieper dropped out of the top 20.
