Westlake, Lake Travis and Round Rock All Win as Central Texas Season Hits Midpoint

The District 25-6A powers rolled in Week 5, setting up a Westlake-Round Rock matchup next week as the Austin area reached the halfway mark of the 2026 regular season.
Week 5 marked the midway point of the 2026 Central Texas high school football regular season, and the weekend's results set up one of the area's biggest games of the year. District 25-6A's three power programs — Lake Travis, Westlake and Round Rock — each posted comfortable victories, and Westlake and Round Rock will now meet next week with first place in the district race on the line.
Westlake, playing a non-district contest, crushed Midland Lee 49-6. Round Rock handled Stony Point 45-25 in a District 25-6A battle, while Lake Travis blew past McNeil behind a defensive effort that repeatedly flustered the Mavericks' quarterback. Those results left the Big Three a combined 3-0 for the week and firmly in control of the district conversation heading into October.
Elsewhere in District 25-6A, Cedar Ridge pitched a shutout, beating Westwood 43-0. The rest of the Class 6A slate in the Austin area produced plenty of lopsided scores: Cedar Park blanked Leander 56-0 in District 24-6A, Rouse beat Vista Ridge 51-28, and Hutto rolled East View 61-7.
District 26-6A delivered some of the week's best storylines. Hays outlasted Johnson 41-28 in a rivalry game between the two Buda schools, while Bowie beat Austin High 31-3 at House Park, with quarterback Deuce Brown running in a touchdown and running back Rhys Moreno adding a score celebrated by his brother, offensive lineman Angel Moreno. Dripping Springs delivered the most one-sided result of the week, shutting out Akins 75-0.
In Class 5A, defending state champion and District 13-5A Division I favorite Smithson Valley made a statement Thursday, dismantling Cedar Creek 84-7. Boerne Champion followed with a 61-32 home win over Anderson on Friday, handing the Trojans a district setback. Manor edged McCallum 39-31, and Lehman slipped past Seguin 19-7.
District 12-5A Division I had Weiss beating Shoemaker 42-28, Georgetown topping Glenn 48-21, and Killeen winning a shootout with Connally 63-51. In District 13-5A Division II, Liberty Hill knocked off New Braunfels 38-24 and Legacy Ranch held off New Braunfels Long Creek 31-24.
Several area teams continued to trend in opposite directions. Hutto and Dripping Springs picked up what the source described as impressive wins, while LBJ and Bastrop kept sliding — LBJ fell 70-14 to Kerrville Tivy in District 13-4A Division I, and Bastrop was shut out 40-3 by Brenham in a non-district game.
The smaller classifications saw Fredericksburg beat Travis 37-6, Taylor rout Northeast 77-0, Hallettsville top Smithville 41-7, Granger beat Moody 58-14 and Thorndale defeat Marlin 37-7. In non-district play, Wimberley won a 49-35 shootout over Bellville, Lago Vista edged Lampasas 43-42, and Gatesville beat Burnet 42-7. Vandegrift, Del Valle, Hendrickson and Lockhart were off this week.
