Mineral Wells Opens District 6-4A Play With 3-1 Win Over Brownwood

Kenley Cates led the Lady Rams with nine kills as Mineral Wells beat Brownwood 3-1 on Tuesday at Mineral Wells High School.
The Mineral Wells Lady Rams opened District 6-4A volleyball play Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over Brownwood at Mineral Wells High School. The Lady Rams host Stephenville on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
Mineral Wells took the first two sets 25-20 and 25-15. Brownwood answered with a 25-10 win in the third, but the Lady Rams closed out the match 25-23 in the fourth after the Lady Lions pushed to avoid a deciding set.
Kenley Cates paced Mineral Wells with nine kills, while LaKyla Bartley and Carsyn Presley added eight apiece. Presley also recorded 17 assists and 11 digs, and Rylan Tarver led the team with 18 digs.
Elsewhere Tuesday, Brock, Peaster, Millsap, Alvord, Springtown and Chico all recorded 3-0 sweeps. Peaster's Mallory Hockaday had 21 kills and Reagan Pennington added 21 assists and 20 digs, while Brock's Tynleigh Donaldson finished with 15 kills and Ally Hawkins posted 27 assists.
Millsap beat Dublin 25-20, 25-19, 25-20 for its first District 7-3A win. Other results: Graham lost to Brock, Comanche fell to Peaster, Poolville lost to Alvord, Castleberry was swept by Springtown, and Santo fell to Chico.
