Aggies Football Falls to Kentucky; Volleyball Wins Twice in Busy Week

Texas A&M's football and soccer teams lost to conference foes, while volleyball picked up a pair of wins and men's golf posted a runner-up result.
Ninth-ranked Texas A&M dropped its first football game of the year, losing 31-21 to Kentucky in the SEC opener at Kyle Field. The game was tied 7-7 at the break before Kentucky pulled away with 21 straight third-quarter points. Two fourth-quarter touchdowns were not enough for the Aggies, who slipped to 2-1. Mario Craver caught a career-best 11 passes for 119 yards, Carsyn Baker ran for his first college touchdown, and Micah Riley hauled in his first touchdown catch at A&M. The Aggies visit LSU on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT for their first road contest.
No. 15 volleyball went 2-0 on the week to move to 6-5. The Aggies swept SFA at Reed Arena by scores of 25-13, 25-9 and 25-22, hitting .307 while limiting the Ladyjacks to 44 points; Natalie Ring had 11 kills at a .400 clip and Gabi Rodriguez notched 17 digs. A&M then beat No. 20 Creighton in four sets on the road, its first win ever in Omaha, getting 21 kills, three aces and 15 digs from Kyndal Stowers, 10 kills at .467 from Kaia Castle, and 44 assists from Kirra Musgrove. After defeating Rice on Monday, the Aggies open SEC play against South Carolina.
Soccer was beaten 5-0 at No. 4 Vanderbilt, its second straight loss to open SEC play. The Commodores led 2-0 at halftime, added three more after the break, and out-shot A&M 19-8 with a 10-1 edge in corners. Riley Crooks was shown a red card, leaving the Aggies with 10 players for the final 21 minutes, during which Vanderbilt scored twice. Adelaide Paredes, Ciara Jade Mitchell and Lucy Landherr all made their first career starts. Now 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the league, A&M hosts No. 10 Alabama on Thursday.
In men's golf, Texas A&M placed second at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup, where Shiv Parmar took third individually and freshman Landon Ashcraft earned the team's lone point in a 4-1 championship-match defeat to Texas. The Aggies then came home 13th at the Fighting Illini Invitational, with Aaron Pounds and Wheaton Ennis tying for 23rd. Both swimming and diving squads open the year ranked, with the men at No. 24 and the women at No. 25 in the CSCAA Top 25, and the season begins Friday with an intrasquad meet against TCU.
