LPGA Returns to Corning in 2027 With New Event, The Classic

The Classic will be played May 27-30, 2027 at Corning Country Club, marking the LPGA's first tournament there since 2009.

The LPGA and Corning Inc. formally launched The Classic on Tuesday at Corning Country Club, bringing the tour back to the upstate New York community for the first time since 2009. The tournament is scheduled for May 27-30, 2027, with a $5 million purse.

Morgan Pressel, now a broadcaster for NBC and Golf Channel, hosted a panel that included Corning Inc. Vice Chairman Lewis Steverson, LPGA Commissioner Craig Kessler and three players: Paula Creamer, Charley Hull of England and Patty Tavatanakit of Thailand.

Pressel and Creamer both played the LPGA Corning Classic during its earlier run, an event Corning Inc. sponsored for 31 years. The final edition was held in May 2009 and won by Yani Tseng with a $1.5 million purse. Hull and Tavatanakit made their first visit to the community ahead of the new event's debut.

Steverson said the community's support remains strong and additional plans for the tournament have not yet been announced. Kessler credited Steverson and Corning for the event's return and said early support suggests it will become a popular stop for players.

Creamer, who served as a U.S. Solheim Cup vice captain earlier this month, said she is recovering from injury and hopes to return to competition in time to play The Classic. A junior clinic was also held Tuesday at Corning Country Club in partnership with the Corning Museum of Glass.
