Mets ride sixth-inning rally to 6-3 win over Rangers in Arlington

Francisco Alvarez drove in key runs and New York capitalized on Texas miscues to take the series opener at Globe Life Field.

The New York Mets opened their series in Texas with a 6-3 win over the Rangers at Globe Life Field on Monday. New York's offense benefited from shaky Rangers defense, while Sean Manaea and the Mets bullpen held Texas mostly in check.

The Rangers struck first in the third, when Josh Jung's RBI double tied the game at 1-1 after the Mets had gone ahead on Juan Soto's run-scoring single. Texas then took a 3-2 lead in the fourth on sacrifice flies from Elias Díaz and Wyatt Langford, capping a rally that included two hit batters and a walk.

The Mets reclaimed the game in the sixth against reliever Nathan Eovaldi. Brett Baty, pinch-hitting, doubled, and Carson Benge walked before Francisco Alvarez lined a two-run double to center that put New York in front. Alvarez later scored from third on Luis Torrens' foul popout to make it 5-3.

Benge added an RBI double in the seventh to extend the lead to 6-3. From there, Mets relievers Nate Lavender, Dedniel Núñez and Kodai Senga closed it out, with Senga finishing the ninth despite a hit batter and a passed ball.

The series continues Tuesday night in Arlington, with Mets starter Nolan McLean lined up against a Rangers pitcher yet to be announced. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM ET.
