Maryland Golf Teams Crack Top 10 in Weekend Tournaments

Both Terps golf squads came away with top-10 finishes in their events on Sept. 21-22, with the men tying for fifth and the women taking sixth.
Maryland's men's and women's golf teams each delivered top-10 results at separate events held Sept. 21-22. The men tied for fifth at the Highlands Invitational in Westchester, Illinois, while the women came in sixth at the Canadians Collegiate Invitational.
The men closed their tournament at 874 strokes, finishing 10 over par. Freshmen Charles David Beeson and Robby Rosati paced the opening round with matching rounds of 72, part of a team total of 292. Maryland matched that 292 figure in round two, a round highlighted by senior Emil Riegger's five-under score. The team saved its best for last, posting 290 strokes in the final round behind Riegger's 70.
The women carded 914 strokes for the event, 50 over par. Junior Chananyu Chowiwattana set the tone in round one with a 72 as the team shot 308. Graduate student Nicha Kanpai, tied for 11th individually, fired the squad's low round of 71 in the second round, when Maryland posted its best team total of 302. Kanpai closed with another 71 in a final-round 304 that locked up the team's sixth-place result.
Four Terps placed inside the top 35, one of the program's strongest showings early in the season.
Elsewhere at Maryland, football coach Mike Locksley prepares for Saturday's Big Ten opener against UCLA following a 35-26 loss to Virginia Tech. Baseball announced an equipment partnership with Marucci, men's soccer forward Said El Eyssami earned his second Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor, and five-star 2028 midfielder Aidan Dale committed to men's lacrosse.
