FSU Women's Golf Finishes Fifth at Jackson T. Stephens Cup

The Seminoles carded 21-over par at Fields Ranch PGA Frisco and missed match play by two strokes, two weeks after winning the Folds of Honor Collegiate.
Florida State's women's golf team finished fifth in stroke play at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup, held Sept. 15 at Fields Ranch PGA Frisco in Texas. The Seminoles posted a 54-hole total of 21-over par and missed the cut for match play by two strokes. Wake Forest, South Carolina, Oregon and Texas finished ahead of them, while Stanford, the reigning NCAA champion, placed behind Florida State.
Sophomore Haruhi Nakatani led the Seminoles for the second consecutive tournament, tying for 13th after rounds of 74, 70 and 77. Junior Alexandra Gazzoli also tied for 13th with rounds of 73, 73 and 78. Junior Elin Pudas Remler and freshman Louise Landgraf each tied for 19th, with Pudas Remler carding a third-round 73 and Landgraf closing with a 74 in only her second college event.
Coach Amy Bonds pointed to slow starts in the first and third rounds as the difference in falling short of match play, noting the team made more bogeys than it should have early in rounds. She added that the squad finished even par over its final five holes and said the week showed the Seminoles can compete with the strongest fields, which they typically do not face until the postseason.
The result followed Florida State's season-opening win at the Folds of Honor Collegiate in Grand Haven, Michigan, on Sept. 9. The Seminoles entered the fall as defending ACC champions, having won the program's first conference title last spring.
Florida State was scheduled to close its non-conference slate at the Schooner Fall Classic, hosted by Oklahoma at Belmar Golf Club in Norman on Sept. 19-21, before ACC play begins.
