Monroe County Region Football: League Leaders After Week 6 and the Week 7 Slate

SMCC, Jefferson, Saline, Bedford, Gibraltar Carlson, Ida and Whiteford top their conferences after Week 6, with the next round of league games Oct. 8-9.
Week 6 of the high school football season is complete across the Monroe County Region, and league races are coming into focus in five conferences. Updated tables show unbeaten front-runners in the Huron League, Southeastern Conference Red, Downriver League, LCAA and Great Lakes Conference. The next round of games is set for Oct. 8 and 9, with nearly every kickoff at 7 p.m.
In the Huron League, SMCC and Jefferson share first place at 5-0 in league play and 6-0 overall. New Boston Huron and Riverview are tied at 3-2, with both teams 4-2 overall. Flat Rock and Grosse Ile sit level at 2-3, while Milan (0-5, 1-5) and Airport (0-5, 0-6) have yet to win a league game.
Week 6 in that league produced a 50-0 SMCC shutout of Milan, a 36-21 Jefferson win over New Boston Huron, Grosse Ile's 44-16 victory against Airport and a 59-42 Riverview shootout win against Flat Rock. On Oct. 9, SMCC plays at Riverview and Jefferson hosts Grosse Ile, with New Boston Huron at Airport and Milan at Flat Rock, all at 7 p.m.
Saline leads the Southeastern Conference Red at 5-0 and 6-0 overall, with Bedford also unbeaten at 4-0 in the league and 6-0 overall. Ann Arbor Pioneer (2-2, 3-3) and Dexter (2-2, 2-4) hold the middle of the table. Monroe is 1-3 and 2-4, Ann Arbor Huron 1-3 and 1-5, and Ann Arbor Skyline 0-5 and 1-5.
Bedford edged Dexter 38-35, Monroe beat Jackson 36-24 and Ann Arbor Pioneer defeated Ann Arbor Skyline 47-21 on Oct. 2, while Saline shut out Ann Arbor Huron 61-0. Bedford gets an early start on the week with an Oct. 8 trip to Ann Arbor Huron at 7 p.m. The Oct. 9 slate has Ann Arbor Pioneer at Monroe, Dexter at Ann Arbor Skyline and River Rouge at Saline, each at 7 p.m.
Gibraltar Carlson sits atop the Downriver League at 5-0 and 6-0 overall, followed by Allen Park and Woodhaven, both 4-1 in league play and 5-1 overall. Trenton is 3-2, Lincoln Park 2-3, Southgate Anderson and Wyandotte Roosevelt 2-4, Edsel Ford 1-4 and Taylor 1-5.
Carlson beat Southgate Anderson 48-14, Woodhaven blanked Dearborn Edsel Ford 49-0, Trenton outscored Taylor 66-36 and Wyandotte Roosevelt won a 66-60 decision over Lincoln Park in Week 6. Allen Park also posted a 43-0 shutout of Flint Hamady. First-place Carlson hosts 4-1 Woodhaven at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 9. Trenton plays at Southgate Anderson, Dearborn Edsel Ford visits Lincoln Park, Allen Park travels to Wyandotte Roosevelt and Taylor goes to Tecumseh, all at 7 p.m.
Ida leads the LCAA at 5-0 and 6-0 overall, with Clinton, Adrian Madison and Hudson bunched one game back at 4-1. Blissfield, Hillsdale and Onsted are each 1-4, and Dundee remains winless at 0-5 and 0-6. Ida beat Dundee 43-13, Adrian Madison defeated Blissfield 28-14, Hudson nipped Clinton 36-30 and Onsted topped Hillsdale 42-27. The Oct. 9 card features Ida at Clinton, Dundee at Blissfield, Hudson at Hillsdale and Onsted at Adrian Madison, all at 7 p.m.
Whiteford heads the Great Lakes Conference at 4-0 despite a 4-2 overall mark, ahead of Edon (3-1, 6-1) and Powers North Central (3-1, 3-4). Montpelier, Sand Creek and West Unity Hilltop are tied at 2-2, with Summerfield and Erie Mason both 0-4 in league play. Whiteford beat Edon 50-29, Powers North Central defeated Erie Mason 51-8, Sand Creek outlasted Montpelier 44-36 and West Unity Hilltop got past Summerfield 23-14. West Unity Hilltop plays at Montpelier on Oct. 8 at 7 p.m., and the Oct. 9 games are Whiteford at Erie Mason, Sand Creek at Summerfield and Powers North Central at Edon, each at 7 p.m.
