Randle's 23 kills lift Harlan past Brennan in five sets for 29-6A lead

Nailah Randle piled up 23 kills as Harlan edged Brennan 3-2 on Tuesday to take over first place in District 29-6A girls volleyball.
Harlan took over first place in District 29-6A with a five-set win over Brennan on Tuesday night at Northside Sports Gym in San Antonio. The set scores were 25-17, 22-25, 26-24, 16-25 and 15-10 in a matchup of the district's top two teams.
Senior outside hitter Nailah Randle, an LSU commit, led the Hawks with 23 kills. She closed the third set with four kills and delivered three of the final four kills in the deciding fifth set. Leeanna Hamilton, a Tulsa commit, added 15 kills and Holly Sieh chipped in eight for a balanced Harlan attack.
Brennan was without two injured senior captains, Aviana Contreras and Mia Nunez. Kayla Rodriguez led the Bears with 15 kills, including seven in a fourth set that Brennan won 25-16 to force a fifth. Adele Ponce added 10 kills and Kiersten Rodriguez had six.
With the win, Harlan improved to 22-10 overall and 8-0 in district play, while Brennan fell to 27-7 and 7-1, completing the first round of the district schedule. The result avenged Harlan's two-set loss to Brennan at the Pieper Tournament in August.
Both teams open the second round of district play Friday, with Harlan hosting Stevens and Brennan facing Taft.
