Nauset Hands Dennis-Yarmouth Field Hockey First Loss of Season

The Warriors edged the defending Division 4 state champions 3-2 on Wednesday to headline Cape Cod and Islands high school action.

The Nauset High field hockey team picked up a landmark victory on Wednesday, defeating defending Division 4 state champion Dennis-Yarmouth 3-2. The loss was the first of the season for the Dolphins, who fell to 4-1, while Nauset improved to 5-1.

Sophomore Sofia Callahan opened the scoring for the Warriors with a goal assisted by Zoey Bassett, and junior Sophie Larivee added another. Bassett then scored a goal of her own, set up by Larivee. Nauset junior goalkeeper Cecilia Hand recorded two saves. Aurora Quenneville and Leah Woodward scored the goals for Dennis-Yarmouth.

Elsewhere in field hockey, Falmouth beat Martha's Vineyard 4-1 for the Clippers' second consecutive win, moving them to 3-2 while the Vineyarders dropped to 2-4-1. Martha's Vineyard's lone goal came in the third quarter from senior Madelyn Huffam.

In boys golf, Sandwich defeated Mashpee 238-267 at Sandwich Hollows, improving the Blue Knights to 7-1 against the Falcons' 4-6. Blaise Chatigny earned medalist honors with a 35, and Sandwich also counted rounds from Bradley Moesman (36), Matt Tokla (39), Anderson Lauf (41), Liam Craddock (42) and Owen Labelle (45). Tokla's round was the freshman's first under 40. James Benners led Mashpee with a 39.

In girls volleyball, Upper Cape swept Blue Hills 25-16, 25-21, 25-18 to move to 5-1. Brooklyn Kutil contributed 18 service points, including nine aces, along with five kills and no errors, while Daishalys Nunes and Samantha Savoie added four kills each.

Dennis-Yarmouth earned its first volleyball win of the season, sweeping Nauset 25-13, 25-18, 25-19. Giulianna DeSouza led the Dolphins with 12 kills, Shauna Baker had nine kills, four blocks and three aces, Jedaya Miller distributed 27 assists, and Emily Ormon added six kills and seven digs.
