Indian Hills and DePaul posted high-scoring boys soccer wins, while Immaculate Heart Academy edged Passaic Tech and a full slate of girls volleyball matches played out across the region on Sept. 23.
High school teams across North Jersey were in action on Wednesday, Sept. 23, with a full schedule of boys soccer, girls soccer and girls volleyball matches. The results below are drawn from box scores reported for that date.
In boys soccer, Indian Hills defeated Paramus Catholic 5-3 behind a four-goal performance from Luke Burgess, who also added an assist. Mo Hamed scored the other Indian Hills goal, while Max Heinsohn and Blake Mayock each recorded an assist. Christian Huerta-Caro made four saves and Elliot Thorn one for Indian Hills.
DePaul rolled to a 6-0 win over Wayne Valley. Alex Oviedo and Ayden Santiago scored two goals each, with Christian Hanle and Arturo Zamora adding one apiece. Oviedo also chipped in two assists, Santiago and Sebastian Arias one each, and goalkeeper Alex Prince finished with seven saves. West Milford edged Wayne Hills 1-0 on a goal by Ryan Czeczuga, with Julian Chaim making six saves in the shutout; Joseph Abraham had nine saves for Wayne Hills.
On the girls side, Lyndhurst beat Dwight-Englewood 3-1 as Lena Marino scored twice and Hailey Welton added another. Emma Amaral assisted on two goals. In a high-scoring slate elsewhere, Hawthorne beat Butler 7-1, with Isabella Hewitt, Isabella Paz and Victoria Sisco each scoring twice and Jaeliana Padilla adding one. Brooke Cunningham made 14 saves for Butler.
Eastern Christian defeated Becton 7-2, with Hannah Nashold scoring three times and Juliana Peralta twice, while Eva Hagan and Zadia Rosario added single goals. Bergen Tech handled Passaic 8-2, getting two goals each from Anshika Patibandla and Sydney Edwards. Harrison routed Weehawken 9-0 behind three goals apiece from Genesis Vallejo and Thalia Sosa, with Romina Sosa assisting on five goals.
Immaculate Heart Academy edged Passaic Tech 3-2, with Madisyn Abella scoring twice and Meryl Lawson once. Christina DeLeon and Madison Carbora scored for Passaic Tech, and Emily Washburn made 11 saves in defeat. Other girls soccer results included Wood-Ridge/Wallington's 3-2 win over Leonia/Palisades Park on a Karolina Lejawa hat trick, Cresskill's 2-1 defeat of Saddle Brook, Rutherford's 3-1 win over Hasbrouck Heights, North Arlington's 1-0 victory against Glen Rock on an Alyssa Sousa goal, and Hawthorne Christian's 1-0 shutout of Mary Help.
The girls volleyball schedule was especially busy. Ramapo swept Ridgewood 25-21, 25-16 behind 13 kills from Sara Wingfield and 25 assists from Veronica Pontrelli. Passaic Tech blanked Clifton 25-3, 25-13, and Wayne Hills took down West Milford 25-13, 25-11 behind 10 kills from Natalia Rodriguez and 15 assists from Rana Oner.
Several matches went the distance. Emerson outlasted Mary Help 25-20, 20-25, 26-24, with Keira Distelhurst posting 11 kills and sharing the digs lead with Hailey Daviou and Ariella Ceylan at 24 apiece. Hasbrouck Heights dropped the opener to Becton 10-25 before winning 25-15, 25-18. Waldwick beat St. Mary in three, and New Milford edged Rutherford 25-20, 20-25, 25-22, with Megan Brause recording 42 digs.
Other straight-set volleyball wins went to Eastside over Kennedy, North Arlington over Harrison, Pascack Hills over Mahwah, Old Tappan over Tenafly, River Dell over Westwood, Fort Lee over Bergenfield, Demarest over Teaneck, Leonia over Saddle Brook, Ridgefield over Weehawken, Bogota over Cresskill and Paramus over Pascack Valley.
