LSU Falls at Ole Miss as Green Avoids Major Knee Injury

LSU dropped its first game of the season to Ole Miss, but receiver Trey'Dez Green appears to have avoided serious damage after a fourth-quarter knee scare.

LSU suffered its first loss of the season at Ole Miss on September 19 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford. The Tigers fell behind 17-0 in the first half, with the defense allowing 24 points before halftime while surrendering only eight after the break. The comeback bid ultimately came down to a fourth-down pass inside the 10-yard line that did not go LSU's way.

Running back Dilin Jones was a bright spot, carrying 23 times for 106 yards and a touchdown, an average of 4.6 yards per attempt. Fifty-seven of those yards came after first contact. Quarterback Sam Leavitt mixed misses with standout plays, including a scrambling effort on the opening touchdown drive, a touchdown throw to Winnie Watkins, and a fourth-and-4 conversion that kept LSU's chances alive.

Tight end Trey'Dez Green caught four passes for 60 yards before departing in the fourth quarter with what initially looked like a serious knee injury. According to a Facebook post from his mother, he sustained only sprains and bruising, with no major ligament damage. He is expected to be sidelined for a period but not for the rest of the season.

Protection problems plagued the offense throughout. Leavitt was pressured 16 times, much of it up the middle, and Bo Bordelon recorded a PFF pass-protection grade of 12.6, one of the lowest single-category marks ever recorded for an LSU player by the service.
