The Bulldogs coach, recovering from rotator cuff surgery, expects to shed the sling before Georgia's Oct. 7 exhibition against Georgia State.
Georgia men's basketball began preseason practice Monday with head coach Mike White sidelined by an injury of his own. White's right arm is in a sling following rotator cuff surgery, and he has worn it for roughly five weeks. He is expected to be free of it before the Bulldogs host Georgia State in an exhibition at Stegeman Coliseum on Oct. 7.
Speaking Tuesday, Sept. 22, the fifth-year Georgia coach attributed the injury to wear and tear, plus his playing days as an Ole Miss guard from 1995-99. Along with the torn rotator cuff, doctors found bone spurs in his right shoulder. He quipped that his left shoulder now aches from compensating and that he might finally master a left-handed layup.
Senior guard Blue Cain noted that White has appeared to be in the sling for most of the year and is eager to see it gone. On roster health, White said freshman forward Hakeem Weeks, listed at 6-foot-9 and 215 pounds, is the only player who has missed time recently and should return shortly.
Georgia tips off its regular season at home against North Carolina Central on Nov. 2.
