Bishop Gorman remains the No. 1 team in Nevada high school football according to the Massey Ratings released September 27. The Gaels improved to 5-1 with a 45-3 rout of Faith Lutheran, a result that dropped the Crusaders to 2-3. Bishop Gorman is idle this weekend and returns to action October 9 with a home game against Sloan Canyon.
Liberty holds the No. 2 position at 4-2 following a 38-0 shutout of Las Vegas. The Patriots travel to Shadow Ridge on Friday. Arbor View sits third at 3-3 after a 49-13 victory over Shadow Ridge, the Aggies' third consecutive win. Arbor View hosts Mojave on Friday.
Coronado delivered the weekend's marquee result, edging Foothill 34-27 in a matchup of top-10 teams. The win lifted the Cougars two places to No. 4 and moved their record to 5-1. Coronado hosts Las Vegas on Friday, while Foothill, now No. 7 at 3-3, looks to rebound at home against Desert Oasis.
Faith Lutheran rounds out the top five at 2-3 after the lopsided loss to Bishop Gorman. The Crusaders have a bye this weekend before visiting Desert Hills on October 9.
Churchill County and Palo Verde, both unbeaten at 6-0, occupy the sixth and eighth spots. The Greenwave beat Spring Creek 47-24 and play at Dayton on Friday. The Panthers defeated Silverado 22-6 and host Basic on Friday.
Spanish Springs rejoined the top 10 at No. 9, moving to 3-3 with a 54-29 win over Reed. The Cougars host Damonte Ranch on Friday. Mater Academy sits 10th at 4-1 after a narrow 35-28 road loss to Sacramento (Calif.) Grant, a longstanding Northern California power. The Knights are on bye this week and host Sports Leadership & Management on October 9.
